resolve_canonical_repo_root fallback now uses commonpath only — no
string split and no os.path.isdir gate — so MCP project_root =
branches/<wt> still resolves to the repo root when the path is not yet
on disk (#274 / review #551 regression).
- Remove /branches/ string-split fallback in resolve_canonical_repo_root;
recover roots via commonpath ancestry only (review #531 F2).
- Refuse existing branches that do not contain live master; no weak
merge-base acceptance (F3).
- Verify caller-supplied assignment_id/lease_id against the control plane
or fail closed (F4).
- Compensating recovery releases bound workflow leases via lease_lifecycle (F5).
- Regression tests for each finding.
Author mutation tools now resolve workspace via explicit worktree_path,
env bindings, or the active author issue lock — never silent fallback to
the control checkout/master. Missing configured bindings fail closed with
operator recovery; create_issue and create_issue_comment agree.
Recovered onto 0568f44 from preserved candidate cbf56ccd (AUTHOR_RECOVERY).

Namespace-scoped workspace resolution prevents GITEA_AUTHOR_WORKTREE from
poisoning reviewer, merger, and reconciler purity checks. Each role uses
its own worktree env var with actionable binding-source errors and safe
reconnect guidance. Preserves #274/#475 author and control-checkout guards.
Share canonical workspace/repo-root resolution between gitea_get_runtime_context
and verify_preflight_purity so valid branches/ worktrees are not rejected when
the MCP process root differs from the stable control checkout. Fix relative
git-common-dir resolution and add regression tests.

Merge prgs/master into feat/issue-274-branches-only-worktrees; keep both
already_landed_reconcile and author_mutation_worktree imports. Allow
branches/ worktrees when PROJECT_ROOT is the session worktree; align
commit-payload tests with branches-only guard (#274).
Add author_mutation_worktree assessment and integrate it into MCP
preflight so author mutations fail closed outside branches/ session
worktrees, with tests for control-checkout and branches-path cases.
